This month the blog carnival from Jewelry Artisans Community is about Social media.
Social Media is the future of communication, a countless array of internet based tools and platforms that increase and enhance the sharing of information. – Social Media Defined
How many different social media are there?
When talking about social media most people immediatly think of facebook, twitter and instagram, but there are a lot more out there. Blogging is big and what about You tube, google+, Myspace, Mixcloud, Soundcloud, Digg, Vimeo, Pinterest, Tumblr and IMVU.
This last one is a big chat site with different worlds and chat rooms and where you can create a caracter where you can interact with other members in a virtual world.
There are also a lot of fora for specific interactions, like arts and crafts, or for certain kinds of music, for fishing, for DIY projects and so on. Because of all the different social media the fora are getting less visitors as before but they still are very important.
Often to find the right information without having to search trough posts on random things that get shared and where the members often build close friendships over the years.
Social media, how and why important is it?
Social media might be the most important way to get your information out into the world.
A lot of companies found out that when using social media they are easier found on the web.
Some companies use facebook as part of their customer service where people can publicly ask questions and where they get answers and the whole world can read with them. This open customer service has a great impact on the trustworthiness of a company. But beware, negative publicity also goes very fast trough social media.
For me social media is a way to get my creations out in the world so people can see
what I create. I have my website linked to my facebook page and to my twitter so when I post new content it automatically gets published on these websites too. To a few other media I have to share manually. It’s important for my SEO that my content gets liked and shared, it’s also important to get reactions to my posts so I can interact with them. Google seems to like it this way.
Keywords where the most important to have on your website but with the changes in google
they aren’t anymore, Yes you still have to use keywords, but now google looks beyond that.
Now google looks if your content is both human friendly and google friendly.
if you have social media interactions, if your content gets liked and shares.
If you have backlinks and so on.
And where do you get all this? Yes, by being active on social media.
Social shares have become the new SEO. As a result, social shares will improve your chances of getting found on search engines. Social sharing is strongly connected to the authority of your website, too.
The strength of a link in social media is now measured by how many times it has been liked, tweeted or shared on social media. – Contentlook.co
