Landscape at Collioure was the assignment for the June Challenge at Jewelry Artisans Community‘s and we were given this painting from Henry Matisse to work with.
These challenges are monthly contests to spark our imagination and make us think out of the box.
It was hard this time, I mean lets be real, make some jewelry with this landscape at collioure painting in mind?
I saw nothing in it. I think most of the others didn’t see it either.
At the moment I’m a bit at a loss because all I see is a blue dodo lying down in the middle of that painting! – said Cat
The thread was filled with hillarieus jokes and some friendly “bickering” that resulted in Cat showing up in her flashy forum police uniform. 🙂
In the end some of us did manage to come up with some designs.
I found these beads in my stash and it struck me that the colors and the whimsical nature of the beads were perfect. Also, the textures/marks on the beads reminded me of the brush strokes in the painting.
Those where Jewelry By Dawn’s words accompanied by this lovely bracelet, She made a second bracelet with the same beads later that month.
The little brush strokes reminded me of all the different colours of the beads I used on the Daydreamer necklace so I made a bracelet to match as it fits well with the picture.

I remembered I had some beads in my stash that had some of the painting’s colors in them, so I went up to my attic to find them to make a jewelry piece, sadly I couldn’t find them but I remembered I did make some earrings and a bracelet with them some time ago. I was hesitant to take them apart, so I came up with this solution. I gave the middle bead a wire wrapped frame using non tarnish silver plated artistic wire and it became a new bracelet ready for 2015.

You’re right, Carina. That was a tough challenge. I was really impressed by the lovely pieces that were submitted. Nothing stops the talented people of our community!
This months challenge is also tough, I hope I get some time to make something.
If not, then I have 3 bracelets I made 2 weeks ago that I could enter. 😉
